To Peel Or Not To Peel?

To Peel Or Not To Peel?

A professional, chemical peel is a form of exfoliation that uses a chemical solution (typically a blend of acids) to remove dead skin cells from the top layer of skin – imagine a lawn mower cutting the grass. The word peel is quite a broad term used in the beauty industry. Many peels don’t actually cause that ‘shed like a snake’ peeling effect, but rather dissolve dead skin cells with little to no downtime. Peels can improve the appearance and texture of skin in as little as one treatment.

The benefits of professional peels include:

  • Improving the skin’s tone, colour, clarity and texture
  • Reducing discolouration and pigmentation caused by sun damage
  • Boosting hydration levels
  • Exfoliating clogged pores and have an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect
  • Stimulating collagen formation to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and reduce the appearance of superficial scarring
  • Enhancing the penetration of topical home care products

At Urba Skin & Beauty, we offer a multitude of peel services, from our brands – Environ, Image, Circadia and DMK. Our peels are ranked in three grades based on their level of strength.

Level 1 Peels – Our most gentle, mild strength peels. These peels have little to no downtime with no physical peeling and can even be carried out on your lunch break. They are suitable for most skin types and can target a range of concerns including dehydration, aging, rough texture.

Level 2 Peels – As a step up from level 1, you can expect to have somemild to moderate flaking and peeling. Level 2 peels are designed for skin concerns such as sun damage, rough calloused skin, acne and deep wrinkling.

Level 3 Peels – These guys are not for the faint hearted! These peels are designed specifically for treating post-inflammatory pigmentation due to melasma and acne, and photodamaged skin. Level 3 peels stimulate the cells to turnover and cause significant peeling and flaking for 5-7 days. We tend to carry out these peels in the evening, as the solution must be left on overnight. A consultation is compulsory prior to booking a Level 3 peel and you must be using active ingredients recommended by your therapist at home.

(These results were achieved after one Level 3 peel to tackle pigmentation)

We have a peel to suit almost everyone. If you are currently a client of ours and interested in learning more about our range of peels, please book in for a skin care chat or phone call with a therapist of your choice here. If you are not yet our client, please book in for a skin consultation where we will tailor a programme to suit your concerns and needs.
