How you treat your skin in your 20’s and 30’s is going to show in your 40’s and 50’s. When we begin to notice pigmentation in the skin, it typically has been brewing under the surface for years.
IPL (short for Intense Pulsed Light and also known as photo rejuvenation or photofacial), is a safe, non-invasive, non-laser, precision light generator that is used to minimize skin discolorations associated with accumulated sun damage and age spots on the face and/or chest. IPL is a fast, yet very effective way to lift pigmentation, without the downtime that commonly occurs with peels.
Our goal is to improve the appearance of sun damaged skin by:
- Removal of sun spots, freckles and hyper-pigmentation
- Improvement of skin texture
- Removal of telangectasia (thread veins)
- Removal of redness in the skin
When performing a skin rejuvenation treatment for pigment, the light is attracted to the melanin (brown or red colour in the skin). The light shatters this pigment, which will then rise to the surface of the skin and naturally shed off within a week or so. During the same treatment, we can also eliminate those pesky thread veins that tend to pop up on your cheeks and nose.
Sounds quite uncomfortable, but it’s really not! Because IPL uses multiple wavelengths of light, it is not technically a laser, and therefore works without causing any deep resurfacing, just some minor redness which tends to go in the first 24 hours. The treatment feels as if a small elastic band is flicking the skin -threading your lip is worse!
A full skin consultation, patch test and health review must be completed before beginning any treatment, detailing your medical history and confirmation of any sun exposure over the last 30-60 days. Although you will see results after as little as 1 treatment, we recommend a programme of 3 treatments, followed by maintenance sessions twice a year. As always, you must protect your skin by avoiding the sun and wearing a high quality SPF in order to maintain your results.
