Microneedling FAQs

Here at Urba, Microneedling is one of our favourite professional skin treatments because of its instant and long-lasting results!

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen stimulating therapy or dermal rolling is a non-surgical, professional treatment for skin rejuvenation. The concept of skin needling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage such as cuts, burns and other abrasions. Immediately after an injury occurs to the skin our body releases growth factors to repair damaged collagen and elastin fibres and reproduce new skin cells.

Skin needling uses a device with tiny needles to cause controlled micro-injuries to the skin. This triggers growth factors and collagen synthesis to rejuvenate the skin, targeting a wide range of concerns.

Who is Microneedling for?

By approximately the age of 30, we will begin to lose collagen at a rate of 1% a year. Collagen is an essential protein, naturally abundant in our dermis which gives strength to the skin, preventing wrinkles, fine lines and broken capillaries. So basically microneedling is for everyone!

What are the visual benefits of Microneedling?

The visual benefits of microneedling include:

  • Suitable for all skin types.
  • Anti Aging - improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and elasticity.
  • Improves and repairs scars & stretch marks.
  • Improves rough and uneven texture.
  • Shrinks pore follicles.
  • Improves skin tone and hyperpigmentation.
  • Suitable for delicate areas, such as under eyes.

Does the treatment hurt ?

A topical numbing cream is applied to the skin before your needling session which helps to reduce discomfort.

*Please note a patch test of  the numbing cream is required prior to your microneedling appointment, even if you have had this treatment elsewhere.

How many sessions do I need?

Typically a course of 3-6 sessions is recommended. However improvements can be noticeable in the skin after just 1 treatment. The amount of sessions required depends on the results you wish to achieve. Your goals will be discussed during your skin consultation.

What is the downtime after the treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, the skin will be red and feel hot - similar to the feeling of sunburn. This sensation tends to die down after a couple of hours. For the next couple of days, the skin will feel tight and look blotchy. This can be easily covered with a mineral make up or tinted SPF.  We will go through your specific aftercare prior to your treatment and ensure you have any products required to help your skin heal quickly.

Do I need to do anything before microneedling?

It is important that your skin is prepped for a treatment like microneedling. To ensure you get the optimum benefits from this treatment, we prefer for you to be a current client of ours. Using key ingredients such as vitamin A, vitamin C and AHA’s  on your skin will boost your skin's ability to heal and regenerate. Microneedling is one of the most effective treatments on the market - but it is only as effective as the home-care you apply and the lifestyle you live.
